How much do you know about chromosomes? In the mini-lab known as chromo-zoom, you can test your knowledge by taking a chromo-quiz. If you score enough points, you can get your name on the high scorer's list!
Chromosomes are tightly-packed balls of DNA threads that are found inside cells. The DNA thread in each cell can be divided up into many parts. Each part is called a chromosome. Different organisms have different numbers of chromosomes. A fly usually has 12 chromosomes, for example, and a horse has 64, while humans have 46 chromosomes in each cell, that is, 23 from mother and 23 from father.
In this multi-media production, we zoom in on the cells belonging to Dean A. and find chromosomes. How do the cells divide? How can the boy Dean A. father a child when he grows up into an adult? Chromo-zoom tells you the difference between ordinary cell division and cell division that makes reproductive cells, and then you get to see a reproductive cell with a tail, and it can swim really fast!
Finally, test yourself by taking the chromo-quiz. If you score enough points, you might earn a place on the all-time high scorer's list!
